Academic Lecturing in English
This webinar provides you with training and practice in giving professional presentations and lectures in English. By the end of the course, you will know how to give a memorable presentation with a clear message. You will be given the linguistic tools in order to signal structure, build rapport with the audience, handle questions and close the presentation confidently. We will also discuss how to adapt your presentation to an audience of mixed English ability, and in the later sections of the course, you will be given the opportunity to practise your English presenting skills and to receive individualized feedback.
In order to achieve its goals, the workshop will use both synchronous and asynchronous formats. The synchronous work will take place via Zoom, and in between Zoom sessions, participants will work through materials independently. On the first day, the workshop will begin with a get-to-know-you Zoom session and the structure of the course in terms of synchronous versus asynchronous activities will be given then.
On day two, participants will hold a presentation after lunchtime. For this reason, all participants will need to prepare a 6-8 minute presentation in advance of the workshop, which they will then modify during the workshop to incorporate the techniques we have discussed. An email will be sent two weeks before the course begins with further guidelines on the presentations, and by the end of the workshop, participants will feel more confident in delivering content in English to heterogeneous audiences.
